Research
IBGE has contributed to the human genome diversity project. So far, more than 25 novel genes and loci were mapped for blindness, deafness, skin disorders and other inherited disorders in Pakistan families.
It has one of the World’s largest bank of human cell lines. Some of the cell lines have been deposited with CEPH, France, through UNESCO. IBGE has more than 130 publications in international peer-reviewed journals.

- HLA-typing to assist surgeons in organ transplantation.
- Detection, Genotyping and Quantitation of Hepatitis C virus (HCV)
- Prediction of interferon response in HCV infection.
- Detection and Quantitation of Hepatitis B virus (HBV)
- Karyotyping to identify the chromosomal abnormalities
- Y-chromosomal deletion to diagnose infertility
- Carrier screening for the inherited diseases to help the affected families to reduce and avoid the chances of affected births.
Training
So far a number of MPhil and PhD students from different Universities of Pakistan, including, Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad, Islamic International University, Islamabad, COMSATS, Islamabad, PMAS Arid Agriculture University, Rawalpindi , Muhammad Ali Jinnah University(MAJU) Islamabad and Hazara University, Mansehra have completed their research and more than 16 students are presently working in the institute for their thesis.
In addition to this, institute has an internship program for students/researchers to learn specific techniques in a short duration of 06 weeks.
